fuzzy muzzy memories

come september, we will be in europe!

handsome and i are starting the first leg with just the two of us visiting multiple cities in italy. then we will jump up to meet the big sister and the giant in germany where we will see some much missed family members along with a lot of sightseeing and beer tasting.  from there, the four of us will head to paris!  i have never been to europe {gasp, i know!} and i am beyond excited!  i always had good intentions to go but something usually came up that took priority.  it is happening this year though!  hear me?  it's happening!

last night, sister and i had planned a skype date to talk about travel dates, where we would meet up and which airports we would fly in and out of.  as it normally happens with most conversations we have, the seriousness of the topic quickly turned to her and i laughing a ton about nothing with the added bonus of a silly little sing-a-long trip down memory lane with muzzy; in french.  i always remember lindsay loving the french muzzy videos but who knew she still knows most of the words and can sing along? impressive right?!

me? i sort of loved princess sylvi on roller skates and the big green clock eating fluff himself: muzzy.
here is the video big sister sang along to while i just laughed and laughed.
in france, i may rely on her to do most of the talking!

bonne nuit!
{i google'd that}

christmas 2011: one for the book

christmas 2011 was unlike any other

this year we spent christmas day in the hospital where my mom has been for the past two weeks.  we knew she wouldn't be out by christmas, so we decided to make the best of pre-christmas build up and the best of christmas weekend just for her.

first up: decorate her room.
the big sister and i bought up a lot of christmas decorations last week and slyly hung them all while my mom slept.  when she woke up she was greeted with colorful ornaments raining down from her window.  red and sliver snow flakes hung from the curtail rail {with medical tape of course}christmas cards and get well cards nicely propped up for her to see.  a tiny green tinsel tree and of course, cookies within reach.

next on the agenda: christmas eve.
it's a good thing my mom is on a regular hospital diet so we don't really need to 'sneak' in food, more just bring it to her.  so we thought it would be fun to throw a little pizza party.  we called in her favorite order {double sausage pizza with a vanilla coke} from our beloved family pizza place, frank's, and invited friends, family and nurse staff to stop by for a greasy slice and vanilla coke while a christmas story played on tv.

last: christmas day.
we had mom's present and stocking ready to go, cookies for the nurses baked and decorated, but the big sister and i were really excited about a surprise we had decided on a few days prior.  hideous pajamas for christmas morning.  to really embarrass ourselves further we decided to cut up a christmas ribbon, fashion it as an over the top bow and place it on top of our ridiculously braided hair.  the embarrassment was well worth the laughter we got the moment mom saw us.

a new tradition?
i hope everyone had a very merry christmas, ate and laughed as much as we did, but most of all, appreciated the time spent with your family and loved ones.  it just goes to show, location is no match for good company.

big sister gets married

last saturday was the highlight of my year to date.  of course i knew it would be wonderful but the run of events from the big sisters wedding proved to be more than ordinary.  the night played out as an unexpected show of true, genuine love  and emotion by not just my now brother in law, but by all the family and friends who attended.

what happened?  my sister, who anxiously waited for last saturday was hit by not just one but multiple panic attacks that lasted hours leading up to the time she was supposed to walk down the aisle.  anxiety attacks are not uncommon for her but none have been as crippling as those.  as time came closer to the ceremony, worrying thoughts of ruining the day for ross {and her} seemed to drown any potential avenue of her escaping those feelings.  needless to say the ceremony was pushed back a half an hour, then an hour, then an hour and a half.  family members that are doctors and nurses came to the room to monitor and calm her while other people respected her privacy.  bridesmaids played messenger from the bridal suite door to the guests downstairs while groomsmen kept waiting guests entertained.  i became spokesperson for my big sister and messenger to my soon to be brother in law.

eventually, big sister was able to muster up enough energy to get in the dress and one at a time came an earring, then another, then a necklace and a bouquet. she slowly walked out to the hallway sitting on a bench outside the room, trying to breath and not to cry.  that's when we realized, and she admitted, she would not be able to walk down the aisle.

we called ross to have him come upstairs so they could decide how they wanted the next few hours to play out.  when we heard him come off the elevators the bridesmaids and i formed a half circle around the big sister so the two of them could still experience the unveiling of seeing each other.  when ross saw lindsay he started to cry, which of course made lindsay cry, then me, then others.  my dad came off the elevator and seeing lindsay hunched over on the bench outside of her room he told her "i carried you home from the hospital when you were born, i'll carry you down the aisle if i have too"

que more water works.

at that point both ross and lindsay decided to have a private ceremony upstairs moving from the bench to the window by the elevators.  everyone scattered to make sure immediate family were there while i announced to the seated guests what was about to happen.  i grabbed the husband and hurried off to the 12th floor to witness what was the best wedding i have not only been a part of, but have ever been too.

one shortened ceremony and two i do's later the hurry of the day was erased by ross holding lindsay through the hallway by the elevators and the excitement that this actually happened, not as expected, but better, honest and genuine.

seriously, best wedding ever.
EVER.
